Getting Your Act Together: Straightening And Whitening Your Teeth As An Actor

As an actor, the show must always go on. If you have appearance issues that you must take care of, it may not always be the best idea to take time off to get things fixed. Leaving the stage and not booking jobs can cause you to miss big opportunities. The catch-22 is that you still need to improve the overall look of your teeth if you want to get more acting jobs. If you want to fix issues with your teeth, here are some ways to fix tooth issues without time off.

Start invisible straightening

If you have crooked teeth that you want to fix, braces may not be a possibility. Braces would be a distraction and could cost you acting jobs. Instead, invest in clear Invisalign retainers that will gradually fix your tooth-spacing issues. Clear retainers will not be noticeable nor distracting on the screen or stage, keeping your look exactly the same. Be sure to keep the retainers in during your time off and practice speaking with them so that they do not cause an abnormal speech pattern.

Get regular whitening treatments

As an actor, you need to make sure that the color of your teeth is as white as possible. Different lighting can cause a tinting on your skin, which could highlight any teeth discoloration. While makeup is used to help adjust skin to the lighting, the only thing that you can do for your teeth is to lighten the shade. Getting monthly whitening treatments should be added as a business expense for all actors. As your teeth get whiter and straighter, it is a good idea to take new headshots to show the upgrade in your appearance.

Keep a toothbrush and whitening strips in a care kit

As an actor, it is a good idea to take a care kit with you all the times. When waiting in line at castings you may be tempted to drink coffee to keep up your energy. During rehearsals or long auditions, you may pick up fast food just to go get something quick. All of these actions can cause tooth decay and staining issues that take away from your look. Keep a small care kit on your person that has a toothbrush, toothpaste, and whitening strips or whitening formula. Perform these actions after eating or drinking as needed. This will give you something to do during downtime that will aid you in looking even better on stage.
